The Sea of Change - video

It’s still not over! In case you have been living in a cave or did not have internet for the last few weeks and do not know about Erik’s show that is up right now, here is a cool little video that sums it all up from install to opening night.

SK8OLOGY - fine art on skateboards

Erik just finished this piece that shipped out today for a benefit show coming up in August at the ISM gallery down in Long Beach. The show will host over 100 creative deck canvases from all the big names in the art and skate industry. Contributing artists and professional skaters are donating their creative deck canvases to raise awareness and resources in an effort to support Now That You Know, a non-profit organization that helps to provide ambitious girls from developing countries a secure environment for learning and growth. It’s a great event for a great cause, and we will be sure to remind you of it one more time before it kicks off. More info here.

New Leaf Clothing - Fall Collection in progress

The flow never stops here in the studio. Deny and I have been working away on coming up with all new fresh ideas for our upcoming Fall Collection. The title of the collection still remains a surprise, but the theme will focus on reminding us and our fans to stop and enjoy the important things in life. Stay tuned as we plan to share the progress and unveil our new line near the end of summer.

Interview with Erik Otto

Not too long ago, writer and new friend, David Downs, visited Erik’s studio and they chatted a little about a lot of things from his upcoming show to what’s its like being an artist during what seems to be a transitional period for art. Some of what David wrote was featured on Juxtapoz Online yesterday. Check the full article here.

Erik Otto update - sneak peek 03

With my next big art show right around the corner, it’s time once again for a sneak peek of what’s to come. For those of you in the area, this is a show not to be missed. If you happen to live somewhere else in the world, I will have plenty of photos and some video to show afterwards. To be honest, I am really, really excited about this show, and you will soon see why.

Shakedown - San Jose’s Biggest Breakdance Competition

For those in the Bay Area, check out the Shakedown this Saturday! There’s going to be emcees on the mic, djs scratching it up, with bboys (and bgirls) strutting their stuff on the dance floor. I’m always wowed by what I see these days. I grew up around this and am amazed to see how breakdancing has evolved. To top it off, there will be a fashion showcase! This is gonna be better than America’s Best Dance Crew ;) See ya there!

New Leaf turns 4!

What is that in “t-shirt” years? I actually can’t believe we’ve been at this for four years already. We’ve seen a lot of lines come and go so we’re happy to still be around and dishing out our artsy tees. To celebrate this anniversary, we’ll be giving away 4 shirts to four lucky fans…thats you guys!

“How do I win?’ you ask.

1. Simply leave a message telling us what your favorite new leaf tee is (there has been over forty designs).

2. Winners will be selected at random.

3. Contest ends July 7, Monday, 11:59PST.

The winners will be announce next Tuesday! Good luck! Enjoy life.

Pixar’s Wall-E Writer on Making Good Movies

Read a good interview today between CNN and Andrew Stanton, writer/director of Wall-E. Here’s a couple things that resonated with me

CNN: Well, what about profit? Did you guys think, wow, a movie where nobody talks, or very little talking happens, could mean [trouble]?

Stanton: Businessmen think like that. We’re a group full of artists, and if you want to understand how we think, think about [the fact] that an artist runs the studio and nothing but artists work under him. So we just make it for the pure excitement of the cinema. We want to make sure it does well enough that we can keep working there, so we have a vested interest in survival, but that’s about where it ends. We just love movies and we want to make more great movie

CNN: This film has several messages, I feel. From the environment, to love, to trying hard …

Stanton: Yeah, frankly the love one is really all I was pushing. Everything else I was using elements that I knew matched those scenarios of environment and society and things, but I was just trying to go with things that [were] … true aspects of us that amplified the big point of the story, which was this love story and what is the point of living? What is the real point of living? There’s a lot of different ways people can fill their time, but there’s really only one reason we’re here and it’s relationships and loving one another. That’s all I was pushing. Everything else was a benefactor of that.

Alright, now I’m sold…gonna go watch it this weekend! You can read the whole article here.
